73-Year-Old Woman Arrested, Police Say
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — A 73-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of burglary, theft, eluding and criminal trespassing after a burglary in Grand Junction.Officer Ray Hovland said he was investigating a possible burglary at an electronics store when he saw an SUV pulling away from the store.Hovland said he turned on his emergency lights, but the SUV kept going.
Hovland said he followed the vehicle as it turned down a dead-end street, then he saw two people jump out.One man ran off. The second man got his foot caught underneath a tire for a short time, but freed himself and ran off, Hovland said in the arrest affidavit.Hovland said he identified the driver as 73-year-old Barbara Mae West.West refused to tell him who the two men were who ran off and refused to answer questions, police said.She was taken into custody, then released to her daughter, according to the arrest warrant.The woman who owns the SUV West was driving told police West said she needed to borrow the vehicle to go to church, the affidavit said. The woman said she used to be married to one of West sons, who is currently in prison.
